With just about all NCAA March Madness hopes and prayers shot, the Vols will close the 2017 regular season at Thompson Boling Arena against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
After suffering a bad loss on the road against the SEC’s last place team in LSU, the Vols’ record fell to 15-15 (7-10 SEC). The loss against LSU was UT’s third in a row.
It is senior day in Knoxville as Robert Hubbs III will play his last game at Rocky Top. Hubbs leads the Vols in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. Other notable players to watch for is Grant Williams who has come on strong in the last few games.
For the Crimson Tide, they come in at 17-12 (10-7 SEC) and seeking a tournament birth by ending their season strong and making a run in the SEC Tournament. Alabama comes in after taking down Ole Miss 70-55 at home in their last outing. The Tide are led by Braxton Key who comes in averaging 12.3 points per game.
As for the standings, the Vols are sitting at 10th in the SEC and can move up to ninth with a win against Alabama and a Texas A&M loss to Kentucky in their last game. Tennessee does, however, hold the tie-breaker against Auburn who is one game behind them so they will not fall with a loss.
Switching it over to Alabama, they are in the top half of the standings at fifth place but cannot move up due to Arkansas holding the tie-breaker between them. Right below Bama is Georgia who does hold the tie-breaker over the Tide. So, an Alabama loss and a Georgia win over Arkansas would mean Alabama gets the chute.
Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET and can be viewed on the SEC Network.
